Product Testing

Western Fireworks, Inc. is a member of the American Fireworks Standards Laboratory (AFSL), an independent, non profit corporation established in 1989 by members of the fireworks industry to: develop voluntary quality and safety standards, work with manufacturers to improve safety and quality, provide a testing program, provide testing certification, and support the efforts of groups promoting the safe use of consumer fireworks.

AFSL operates the China Fireworks Quality Improvement Program, a testing program administered by an independent, internationally recognized testing laboratory. The fireworks products are tested at the factory level in China for compliance with CPSC enforced manufacturing and performance standards before being shipped to the United States. Those products that pass the AFSL factory level testing in China are then certified and shipped to the United States.

Our Safety Tips

Fireworks are an American tradition. They can provide wholesome celebration and family entertainment, but must be used by adults in a safe and cautious manner. To insure the safety of both the audience and those lighting the fireworks, we recommend that you obey the following fireworks safety measures during your fireworks display.

  • Read and follow label directions.
  • Use adult supervision. Do not allow minor children to handle or light the products.
  • Purchase from reliable fireworks dealers.
  • Use fireworks outdoors only.
  • Obey local laws.
  • Keep a ready source of water available. A connected hose, fire extinguisher or bucket of water.
  • Be aware of your surroundings. Look for potential dangers. Keep fireworks away from homes, wooded or dry grassy areas. Use fireworks in a clear, open area, making sure the area overhead is free from obstructions. Watch out for dry grass, dry brush or any flammable items that could catch fire.
  • Only use fireworks as intended. Don't try to alter or combine them in any fashion.
  • Ignite fireworks on a hard, level and non-flammable surface only. Never shoot fireworks in metal or glass containers.
  • Be aware of the wind conditions when you light your fireworks. Do not use the products when it is wind conditions are unsafe.
  • Use common sense. Spectators should keep a safe distance from the shooter and the shooter should wear safety gear & glasses. Never put your head or any part of your body over the top of any fireworks product at any time. Never look into a tube to check on the firework item. Never hold a lighted firework in your hand.
  • Light only one firework item at a time.
  • Never attempt to re-light, alter or fix any malfunctioning firework item.
  • Never use fireworks if under the influence of alcohol or other drugs.
  • Store fireworks in a cool, dry place and dispose of fireworks properly.
  • Use Caution with Animals. Noise and lights of fireworks often frighten animals.
  • Never transport fireworks on airplanes; it is a violation of federal law.
